Bronze Series
Gravitational Objects
1989-95
This body of works consists of a series of bronze sculptures covered with experimental patinas created by the artist, when she relocated to the American east coast, and worked at foundry just north of New York City in Patterson, NY.
All together she created four series of works:
- Autumn Spring Spectrum
- Color Studies
- Grand Horizons
- Sea & Sky
These sculptures are of precision machined bronze bricks of various rectangular shapes. The artist focused primarily on batch recipes for coloring. In order to achieve specific ambience, Vogel developed special formulas for bronze staining. These are abstract paintings on machined geometrical forms but with their colors refer to natural phenomena and light refraction distinctive for specific seasons or landscapes in natural settings.
Each series consists of between five and twenty five tile-like pieces. The precision cut bronze tiles have become the canvas which Vogel uses to paint her patina light spectrums appropriate for a specific ambience, be it the season or the landscape.
